The Awards - ANZ Trustees Foundation: Rob Guest Endowment
This award is intended to help a current artist in the musical theatre genre gain the performance experience, media training, guidence and public image to help them become a leading artists in the Australian Musical Theatre Industry.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be aged between 18-30 as of 1st August 2011.
- Vocal, dance and acting training is preferable but not essential. Applicants will be assesed on all three elements.
- Professional experience or a current position in a professional show will not exclude performers from applying. If an artist has had a leading role in a professional Australian musical they would be encouraged not to apply, however those that have been in the ensemble or been a cover or understudy to a lead would be encouraged to still apply.
- Agent representation is not required to apply for the competition.
- Applicants must be an Australian citizen.
2011 Judges
The 2011 judging panel will consist of Jon Nicholls, Roger Hodgeman, Kellie Dickerson, Peter Casey and Karen Johnson Mortimer. As well as working with these judges, the six finalists will have the chance to work with a leading director and choreographer in preparation for their performances at the finals.
Judging Criteria
The Judges will award the prize to a versatile performer with exceptional talent who will benefit from the opportunity to work with the professionals involved, be inspired be the opportunities offered and actively contribute to the industry in a positive way for the duration of their career.
They will be judged on the following aspects;
A) Vocal: Technique, musicality, range and clarity
B) Dramatic: Characterization, story telling, taking direction and cold script reading
C) Dance & Movement: Natural movement, body awareness, use of stage space and choreography.
D) Employment potential: Image, maturity and flexibility of roles
E) Suitability of being award winner.
The Prize
It is intended the winner will receive a prize package to provide not only financial assistance for their future, but access to tuition and industry specialists both in Australia and overseas that will allow them to hone their skills and knowledge of the industry and subsequently flourish within it.
The 2011 prize package includes a $10,000.00 talent development grant to go toward tuition in Australia or overseas, a media training session, a new headshot package and a guest performance at a nominated industry event the following year.
To ensure consistency and fairness in judging the Award each year, where a high level of performance excellence is not achieved, the ANZ Trustees: Rob Guest Endowment Judging Panel reserves the right to not award a winner, or finalist place getter.
